Summer vacation looks a bit different this year so we're helping you embrace the STAY-cation!
We're all trying to stay closer to home this year and while that might mean your typical summer vacation was canceled, it doesn't mean there's no way to enjoy the summer. So, we've compiled a list of staycation spots within driving distance of Knoxville. Stay safe and enjoy!
1. Downtown Knoxville
Even if you live in the Knoxville area, sometimes it feels good to be in a new setting and take in downtown life as a resident. Luckily, downtown Knoxville offers some of the best hotels in East Tennessee without breaking the bank. Enjoy lovely downtown views and quaint accommodations. Grab a bite on one of the spacious patios or take a walk around market square and enjoy the lively atmosphere. Shops and restaurants are open with some safety measures in place so you don't have to miss out on downtown Knoxville life!
2. Lake Santeetlah, NC
If you like a more outdoorsy vibe, you have to check out Lake Santeetlah, NC! Just a couple hours outside of Knoxville, you'll ride the tail of the dragon (HWY 129) into a magical forest scene with gorgeous views and beautiful fresh air. Campsites are available either by reservation or first come first serve. Grab your cooler and a couple floats because you will definitely want to be in the water while camping there! It doesn't get much better than a free campsite on the lake.
3. Johnson City, TN
Just a small city in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains but with amazing potential! Avoid the "Are we there yet?" with this 1hr 40min drive into this charming city. It’s a great hub for biking, hiking, and exploring the nature of East Tennessee. A revitalized downtown offers terrific restaurants and breweries in a quaint setting. Take a hike with amazing 360 degree views and return for convenient lodging and a great meal!
4. Blackberry Farms, TN

Perfect for a weekend getaway with friends or family! You'll enjoy a beautiful downtown setting with tons of history and plenty to see. Greenville is a cultural mecca and home to more than 250 international businesses and a vibrant downtown supported by those businesses. Also home to historic Clemson University, you'll love the energy around this town. Some of the most popular attractions include The Gorge Zipline, which is the steepest and fastest in America, Greenville Zoo, River Falls Spa, and the BMW Performance Center.
